I recently completed some illustration work for a wonderful indie musician called Maria Taylor. I had great fun working on her album art for LadyLuck, a wonderful album, you can hear some of it here.
Congrats! I actually picked up her album last night at her show here in Portland. (I saw your blog address on the CD insert.) Great work on her album. I mentioned a lil' about it on today's post... http://www.atealeaf.me/2009/04/maria-taylor-show-recap
Welcome. My drawings and paintings are an intimate connecting between beauty and strength in nature.
I work from observation, in my home studio, in a variety of mediums. Often the subject matter is feminine and tender, which I capture with intense colour and bold marks. I apply paint in broad brush strokes, building texture and layers in my paintings. The Protea is often central in my work. This robust plant is native to South Africa and thrives in Australia. I was born in South Africa in 1973 and immigrated to Melbourne, Australia, in 2007. I studied commercial art and design in Cape Town, which led to a career as an art director in advertising in London. I have travelled extensively in Europe and Asia. My career as a freelance illustrator started in Melbourne in 2008 when I chose to work for myself from home around my children and family.
My illustration work has been published and produced in Australia and internationally. I have developed my painting and drawing practise through various art courses and have been fortunate enough to exhibit my work in Melbourne. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Art at the University of Victoria, majoring in sociology.
